Donna’s Story

“When it rains, look for rainbows. When it is dark, look for stars.”

Donna’s daughter suffered a serious, and entirely preventable, birth injury leading to lifelong disabilities including quadriplegic cerebral palsy, learning difficulties and behavioural issues.

Liam’s Story

“Children with disabilities are like butterflies with a broken wing. They are just as beautiful as all the others, but they need help to spread their wings.”

A delay in Liam’s delivery resulted in a deprivation of oxygen, causing permanent, irreversible brain damage leading to cerebral palsy.

Hannah’s Story

“Every child is a different kind of flower. All together they make this world a beautiful garden.”

During the course of her birth, Hannah acquired a streptococcal infection which was not treated in time. This resulted in septicaemia and meningitis, causing permanent, irreversible brain damage.

Alison’s story

“Loving a child exposes places in the heart that you didn’t know existed. Losing a child does the same thing.”

Alison and her partner were excited after Alison fell pregnant for the first time. Sadly, after a healthy and normal pregnancy, they lost their first daughter Macy less than two hours after her birth which we believe was due to medical errors.

Zachary’s Story

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have” - Bob Marley

Zachary, aged seven months was admitted to hospital suffering with croup. His condition was allowed to deteriorate to such an extent that he required emergency intubation. During the course of this procedure he suffered a profound deprivation of oxygen, leading to permanent brain damage.

Sam & Phil’s Story

“If I know what love is, it is because of you.” - Herman Hess

Sam and Phil took their 15-month-old daughter Evie into hospital in 2018 when she became suddenly unwell. They recognised that Evie was showing signs of sepsis and repeatedly urged medical staff to give her antibiotics which they sadly failed to do in a timely manner leading to the loss of their beautiful girl.

Radwan’s Story

“A parent will only ever be in one of three places: in front of you to cheer you on, behind you to have your back, or next to you so you are not walking alone” - S Turner

Rad underwent cardiac screening when he was 16 having been signed to Tottenham Hotspur. The purpose of the screening is to detect silent cardiac problems. An ECG demonstrated a potentially fatal problem. Neither Rad nor his parents were advised that the ECG was grossly abnormal. Some months later, whilst playing in a professional match, he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was deprived of oxygen for 16 minutes, leading to severe brain damage.

Michelle’s Story

“Sometimes the strongest amongst us are the ones who smile through silent pain, cry behind closed doors, and fight battles nobody knows about”

Michelle’s husband needed a scan to determine if he had a pulmonary embolism. Instead, he was subjected to an invasive procedure which resulted in damage to an artery, causing him to bleed to death.

Louise’s Story

“Those we love and lose are always connected by heartstrings into infinity” - Terry Guillemets

Louise’s partner went into hospital over a bank holiday weekend in 2017 as a priority patient. He was suffering with symptoms of sepsis on day one of admission and should have been provided with antibiotics. Sadly, the hospital failed in its duty of care and he died just a few days later aged 45.
